One of the longest-running modes in any Halo game, Infection, is finally here Halo infinite.
Halo Infinite launches in November 2021, and since then it’s missing a mode that’s been in every game since Halo 3: Infection. Aside from the simple fact that the game was hard to develop, who knows why it hasn’t been added to Infinite until now, but 343 Industries has now announced that Classic Mode will be coming to the game this summer. To be precise, the upcoming mode will arrive alongside Season 4 on June 20, as confirmed by 343 Industries on Twitter.
The mode is essentially Halo’s Zombie PvP mode, where infected Spartans must play and infect other players. It’s a classic mode that’s beloved by many fans, so its omission in Halo Infinite must have been obvious to many. Back in March, Microsoft promised to be more “consistent” with Halo Infinite seasonal updates, given that each season takes a long time to release, and Season 3 even saw a relatively long delay.
Halo Infinite has struggled even before launch, raising the question of whether we’re witnessing the death of the Halo franchise. One of the biggest disappointments for many fans was 343 Industries’ announcement back in September that it was canceling the split-screen campaign co-op mode, which has been a hugely popular gameplay since the first.
Last month, longtime Halo developer Joseph Staten announced he was leaving Microsoft after nine years. Staten was the creative lead on Halo Infinite but is currently at Netflix, where he’s the creative director on the streaming giant’s unannounced AAA game. There’s no word on what the game will look like, though it’s apparently a multiplayer game.
