Started with high hopes and expectations, Halo Infinite ultimately did not perform as Microsoft and the community had hoped. This is now reflected in the number of players on Steam.
According to surveys, Halo Infinite on Steam has lost almost all of its original players. The action title was launched in November 2021 with high hopes, but the game apparently cannot captivate the community in the long term – at least on the PC.
Since the launch, almost 98 percent of the original players on Valve’s PC platform have said goodbye to Halo Infinite, which is why the community is quite (rightly) questioning the future of the title. According to SteamDB, the all-time high of simultaneous players via Steam is 272,586 gamers – most recently there were just a little more than 6,000 players at the top, with a downward trend, mind you.
A discussion has therefore flared up in the community as to why Halo Infinite is doing so badly. Many blame developer 343 Industries’ live-service approach, as newcomers are put off by the monetization. Another reason is the lack of meaningful new features or maps; in the absence of new content, many gamers would turn their backs on Halo Infinite.
It is unclear how many players are playing Halo Infinite on the Xbox, after all this is the supposed main platform of the franchise. However, the values from the SteamDB should at least be an indication that things are probably not looking as rosy as hoped there either. So far, Microsoft and 343 Industries have at least not shelved the game and released more new updates & Co. Most recently, the once-popular Infection mode from earlier parts returned to the current Halo Infinite.
