It was a simple tweet, little more than a northern Europe one Good morning! How are you all? But what followed certainly far exceeded the expectations of the Sesame Street staff behind Elmo’s X account.

Not only did half of Sesame Street quickly respond to the quasi-cries for help, no: Even US President Joseph Joe Robinette Biden spoke up.

This text, just four dozen characters long, triggered a storm of interaction: as of late afternoon on January 31st, almost exactly two days later More than 175 million people saw the post and There have already been almost 13,000 answers so far.

What are the answers about?

Certainly not all, but a large proportion of the reactions can be described as statements of discomfort, if not outright summarized as cries for help. Users clearly understood Elmo’s post as an honest question about their well-being – not just a platitude.

We will not highlight individual tweets here, because behind each of the thousands of statements there is at least one affected person – often probably entire families and his or her circle of friends.

Joe Biden – or his team on behalf of him – expressed understanding for the concerns and fears of the people behind the comments. And further:

Our friend Elmo is right. We have to be there for each other, we have to offer help to our neighbors in need and, above all, we have to ask for help ourselves when we need it ourselves.
