Do you know the “Harry Potter” world like the back of your hand or do you need a reminder? Even super fans of the student magician regularly forget these 11 details.
The “Harry Potter” films can be seen every week until Christmas: The weekly broadcast of the “Harry Potter” films on free TV begins again in late autumn. We list all the “Harry Potter” broadcast dates for you!
With the multitude of characters and complex storylines, there are many details in the “Harry Potter” books that even die-hard fans occasionally forget. You would probably need Hermione’s memory to remember all the elements that were left out of the films – the scope of the “Harry Potter” world is simply overwhelming.
Some subplots, such as Rita Skeeter’s secret, and even entire characters such as Ludo Bagman fell victim to the cut. We can’t offer a pensieve, but we’re happy to help you refresh your memory: You may have forgotten these 11 details.
The absent Weasley
The second eldest son of the Weasley family only appears for a tiny moment in the “Harry Potter” films. Charlie Weasley is photographed on the family trip to Egypt, but never appears in person in the remaining films. In the books, Ron’s brother plays an important role in the first part, where he helps Hagrid’s dragon Norbert get out of the castle.
Charlie’s dragon connections benefit Harry again in the fourth part, as they were part of the first task of the Triwizard Tournament. Likewise, Harry follows in his footsteps as Seeker of the Gryffindor team. Although he was active as a member of the Order of the Phoenix, we don’t see Charlie again until the final battle against Voldemort.
Ron and the brains
In many ways, Ron was underrated in the “Harry Potter” films, often appearing as just a fun sidekick. His counterpart in the books is a lot more complex. So Ron’s visit to the Department of Mysteries in The Order of the Phoenix leaves scars from the Tentacle Brain’s grip, ensuring he will never forget that fateful day.
The cursed Defense Against the Dark Arts
Although it’s widely known that the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts is already changing hands faster than you can say “Quidditch,” the reason why is not often talked about. In “The Half-Blood Prince” we learn a lot about Voldemort’s murderous life, including that he once wanted to occupy this very position. When Dumbledore wisely rebuffed him, the man without a nose actually placed a curse on the apprenticeship.
Small-minded that he is, the self-proclaimed lord couldn’t allow anyone other than him to be happy in the position. As a result, no Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher stayed longer than a year. From Quirrell to Snape, every teacher suffered a terrible fate.
Hagrid among the giants
Hagrid is absent for much of the school year in “The Order of the Phoenix” and returns to Hogwarts in disarray. In the best Hagrid style, he quickly reveals the secret of his mysterious mission. The gamekeeper tells the trio how Dumbledore sent him on a diplomatic trip to the giants.
As part of the story of the fifth book, this revelation showed a more political side of the wizarding world. On the journey, Hagrid learned more about his family and met his half-brother Grawp. It also demonstrated the trust that Dumbledore continually placed in Hagrid and how deserted Hogwarts seems without Hagrid’s rock cookies and dangerously cuddly pets.
I solemnly swear that I do not understand the age of the Marauders
The kings of misdeeds are probably Fred and George, but before them the Marauders saw themselves in this role. The four friends around Harry’s father are often referred to as “Harry Potter” characters with the greatest spin-off potential. As the series progresses, we learn more and more about them, but their aged film versions (and, to some extent, JK Rowling) ignore basic details.
In the novels, James and Lily Potter are just 21 years old when they are killed by Voldemort and Sirius is imprisoned in Azkaban. By this logic, Snape is also a similar age, but in the “Harry Potter” films they are all portrayed by older actors and actresses. The Marauders’ youth is a central part of their tragedy, and the tough choices they had to make demonstrated the cruelties of war.
The Secret Life of the Ghosts of Hogwarts
Hogwarts doesn’t just have living residents, which once again shows the whimsical whims of magic. One of the most memorable ghosts in the castle is the Almost Headless Nick, who, even half-decapitated, is still up for a good chat. On the 500th anniversary of his death, he throws a big party and invites the trio to the dungeon for a bite of moldy food in dreary decor.
Harry, Ron and Hermione weren’t too convinced by the spirits’ celebratory mood, but the event provided an interesting insight into the lives of the undead castle population. The celebration takes place in “The Chamber of Secrets” but was cut from the film adaptation. Would you also like to take part in the headless hunt?
He whose death was not special
For seven years we not only watch Harry grow up, but also support him in his fight against Voldemort. The dramatization of his death on the big screen reflects this, with him and Harry fighting across the entire Hogwarts grounds. In stark contrast, the showdown between the Boy Who Lived and You-Know-Who, as well as Molly’s triumph over Bellatrix, takes place in the Great Hall.
The Hall is the central place of gathering, it is the heart of Hogwarts, a fitting setting for the final battle. Surrounded by friends, Harry finally defeats his adversary. Voldemort dies like everyone else, the Dark Lord’s body falls to the ground and the terror ends.
