Harry Potter’s parents left him an impressive fortune that enables him to live a carefree life. We’ll tell you where the Potters’ wealth comes from!
From late autumn it will be said again: The “Harry Potter” films will be shown weekly on free TV until Christmas! Here you can find all the broadcast dates so you don’t miss any part.
In the first “Harry Potter” film, the young magician’s apprentice learns during a visit to the magic bank Gringotts with Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) that his parents have left him a considerable fortune.
While this is mentioned in passing in the films, Harry’s (Daniel Radcliffe) financial freedom plays a larger role in the books. So he uses his inheritance to provide Fred and George Weasley (James and Oliver Phelps) with the start-up capital for their joke shop “Weasley’s Magical Wheezes”.
The money comes from the prize money from the Triwizard Tournament (“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”), which Harry passes on because he doesn’t need it himself. But why is he so wealthy anyway? Why do the Potters have so much money that Harry might never have to work? We take a look at how the Potters got their fortune and why Harry is so financially independent.
Most wealth in the world is inherited
As in real life, in “Harry Potter” most wealth is not earned but rather inherited. For the Potters, this even goes back to the 12th century. Harry Potter’s ancestor Linfred of Stinchcombe was a potion brewer who celebrated many breakthroughs.
The Skele Wax potion that Madame Pomfrey (Gemma Jones) uses in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” to re-grow Harry’s bones is based on the achievements of Linfred of Stinchcombe.
Linfred of Stinchcombe was a friend to humans and used his potions to help them. The name “Potter” can also be traced back to him, as Linfred was often in the garden and there pottered around
But the Potters’ fabulous fortune is not only due to Linfred’s inventions and magical breakthroughs. It was Harry’s grandpa Fleamont Potter who ultimately made the fortune what it is for Harry. Fleamont quadrupled the Potters’ fortune.
He became famous in the wizarding world through the magic mixture to create the magical hair care product Seidenglatts Hair Gel. Hermione (Emma Watson) even uses the gel in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” to tame her hair for the Yule Ball.
Before his death in 1979, Fleamont eventually sold his company and left the fortune to his only son, James Potter, who eventually left it to Harry after his death in 1981.
How much money does Harry Potter have?
Exactly how much money Harry has is unknown. Have fans on Reddit US-Magazin Game Rant attempted to count the coins seen in the first film “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and convert the magical currency galleons into US dollars.
Harry Potter’s fortune becomes like this at least $1.2 million appreciated. Since Harry inherited Sirius Black’s (Gary Oldman) fortune after the death, including the family home in Grimmauld Place, the fortune is estimated to be significantly higher.
