Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the second part of the new film saga that will be released in our cinemas in 2018. The project is signed to Warner Bros. and is directed by David Yates, a regular in the Harry Potter universe. The year is 1927. Gellert Grindelwald (played by Johnny Depp) is wanted by the Wizards of the United States Magical Congress. In fact, the latter fuels a war between the wizarding world and the non-magical world. Dumbledore, a former friend of Grindelwald, is the only one who can stop him. The film was not very well received by audiences, but also by the press (52% on Metacritic and 36% on Rotten Tomatoes). In fact, specialist journalists criticize that the production took too few risks. The stakes in the film aren’t high enough for the events taking place in it to be taken seriously. Also, Johnny Depp’s presence as the main antagonist wasn’t sufficiently exploited, which is a shame for such a talented actor.
Fantastic Beasts
the saga Fantastic Beasts struggles to convince with his first film, released in 2016 and still directed by David Yates. In 1926, in New York, we discover Norbert Dargonneau, a scientist whose goal is to list the largest number of fantastic animals. Having just landed in the North American city, Norbert unknowingly releases several creatures. However, such an act is a violation of the International Code of Magical Secrecy. Our zoologist is being pursued by magical institutions and will encounter many other troubles along the way. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them earned a 66% rating on Metacritic and 74% on Rotten Tomatoes. The press has criticized the film for not being accessible to an audience uninitiated in the Harry Potter universe. The magical universe treads paths already trodden by the main saga. Despite the desire to show us other parts of Harry Potter’s lore, the press says the attempt remains too timid.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is the adaptation of the 7th book by JK Rowling. The film was released in 2010, still in production under the direction of David Yates and Warner Bros. Since the final novel in the saga is quite large, the production decided that this adaptation would be split into two distinct parts. After the events of Part 6, Harry, Hermione and Ron go on a hunt for Horcruxes, the artifacts that allow them to kill Voldemort. With a Metacritic score of 65% and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 77%, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 falls short of the mark. The film feels much more like a prequel to the events of the last opus and leaves viewers hungry.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
That was in December 2002 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets comes to our cinemas. This time directed by Chris Columbus (The Color of Feelings). The second part of the saga begins with a dinner at Harry Potter’s adoptive family. The young wizard is then taken to his room and encounters Dobby, an elf who has entered the house. He tells Harry that Hogwarts is in grave danger. The Chamber of Secrets has been opened and an heir of Slytherin House has the power to take full control of the school. Harry and his friends must act quickly to thwart You-Know-Who’s plans. With a Metacritic score of 63% and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 82%, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is considered one of the most faithful adaptations of the JK Rowling saga. The main critic ism that journalists find about the production is the stretching of certain scenes in the book.
Harry Potter at the Philosopher’s Stone
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone marks the arrival of the cult universe in cinema. Released in 2001 In Our Dark Rooms, the film is endorsed by Chris Columbus. We discover the character of Harry Potter, a young orphan who is reluctantly taken in by his uncle and aunt. In fact, the young man’s adoptive parents make him suffer all sorts of abuse. At the age of 11, Harry Potter receives a mysterious letter and learns that he is actually a wizard. Then he embarks on a journey to the greatest school of magic: Hogwarts. The adaptation was fairly well received by critics (65% on Metacritic and 81% on Rotten Tomatoes). The production was praised for its near-perfect adaptation of the universe described in the novel. However, the characters created in the film are not quite the same as those in the first novel. A first conclusive test for a saga that shaped an entire generation.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the 5th part of the saga, which was released in cinemas in 2007 and was directed by David Yates. Harry begins his fifth year at Hogwarts. Noticing the wizarding community’s refusal to believe in Voldemort’s imminent return, the school welcomes a new teacher, Dolores Umbridge, who aims to silence Dumbledore. In fact, the master of Hogwarts is aware of the return of the evil wizard. The Ministry of Magic wants to prevent a wave of panic from shaking the wizarding world. Harry and his friends then encounter a previously secret group, the Order of the Phoenix, who are trying to stop Voldemort from carrying out his plan. This installment accompanies the generation that grew up watching the saga, trying to make the film darker, more mature and more violent than the previous ones. With a Metacritic rating of 71% and a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 77%, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix hits hard and convincingly.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Again and again directed by David Yates, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be in cinemas in 2009. Voldemort is establishing itself more and more in the magical world as the Ministry of Magic has finally made public the return of the fearsome wizard. Dumbledore decides to guide and train Harry hard to face the Dark Lord. Between love stories and trials, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince takes the story to a climax of the saga. The film received ratings of 78% on Metacritic and 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the press praising David Yates’ expertise in this faithful adaptation.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Join us in the past Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire published in 2005. For this fourth part, the production has been entrusted to Mike Newell (Donnie Brasco). The fourth year marks the arrival of the Triwizard Tournament! Despite the fact that Harry is underage to participate, the Goblet of Fire decides otherwise. Accused of cheating by the other students, he has an encounter that will change his life forever. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is considered one of the best adaptations of the saga, scoring 81% on Metacritic and 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics point out the perfect transfer of the tournament scenes to the big screen. This puts it in the top 3 of the most popular Harry Potter films.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Released in 2004, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third part of the series and this time it was directed by Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity). Criminal wizard Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban Prison with a single goal… to find Harry Potter. Accused of handing the young wizard’s parents over to Voldemort, Sirius Black attempts to prove his innocence by searching for the real culprit. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was critically acclaimed (82% on Metacritic and 90% on Rotten Tomatoes) and unveils a little more of the saga’s universe, with new characters becoming cult and revelations that shed light on the meaning of changing the story.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2
We end on a high note with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 published July 11, 2011. David Yates receives a Metacritic score of 85% and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96% for the long-awaited conclusion to the saga. With the Horcruxes reunited, the only way to reach Voldemort, Harry and his companions prepare to take part in the battle that will decide the fate of the magical world. Will Harry’s intense training alongside Dumbledore be enough to face the dark wizard? The ending of the saga in cinemas was very well received, both by the press and by fans.
