News culture “Have You Ever Shot a Deer?” This Disney classic returns in a terrifying version. And the first images make our blood run cold
After Winnie the Pooh, Bambi is the subject of a new terrible adaptation. A new test for the POOHNIVERSE project.
There is a project in the world of horror c inema that is slowly taking shape, a project as colossal as it is unpredictable: the POOHNIVERSE. As 2023 began, we were already watching helplessly for the release of Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey, a low-budget film starring the adorable Winnie the Pooh in a less than stellar form. After his friend Christopher Robin released him when he grew up, the animal decided to turn against him in a rather savage way. Race result: a terrible 3% score on aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The proposal convinced absolutely no one, but miraculously still raised $5.2 million against a budget of $100,000. As bad as it is, Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey is therefore damn profitable, paving the way for a sequel that was released in the US a few days ago
Now there’s no stopping the films’ producer, Scott Chambers, as he then announced to Variety the start of the “Pohniverse”a prolific horror universe that will include Pinocchio, the Mad Hatter, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Bambi and even Tinker Bell. And work already seems to be well underway, as we’ve just received the first images of Bambi: The Reckoning
First images from Bambi: The Reckoning
In the first – short – image of Bambi: The Reckoning, two hunters use a dead bird as a training target before one of them asks with a closed face: “Have you ever shot a deer?” “No, what about you?” replies the second hunter. “Yes, once“, then confides in the first and unsurprisingly refers to poor Bambi’s mother. The last seconds show a very angry deer that, not without malicious intentions, overturns a car. The summary is as follows: “We follow Xana (Roxanne McKee) and her son Benji (Tom Mulheron) as they get into a car accident and are soon pursued by Bambi, a malevolent killing machine.
Certainly the project as a whole is pretty ridiculous and yet many viewers seem to be quite amazed by the depiction of the beast. “The CGI at the end was really good. The deer model looks really good and not only is it glued on, the lighting looks good and the shadows too“, notes one Internet user. The opinion is shared by most of the comments visible on the trailer’s YouTube page. There is currently no release date known for Bambi: The Reckoning. In the meantime, if you want to check out the Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey adventure, note that I saw it lying around in the Prime Video rubble.
