News culture HBO has just made the terrible news official: The series “House of the Dragon” will end with this final season
Unlike Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon doesn’t have eight seasons! We now know how long the show will officially last, and unfortunately, we’re already halfway through.
While HBO has just aired the 8th (and final) episode of the second season of House of the Dragon, terrible news reaches Westeros. The Game of Thrones spin-off will not last longer than four seasons. It is Ryan Condal, showrunner | co-creator of the show, who revealed it in a press conference (reported by diversity), which took place on Monday, August 5. More specifically, the man explained that there will be a “final season” after the third chapter (which will begin filming “in early 2025” and release “from 2026”). In other words, season 4 will mark the end of “House of the Dragon,” sniff.
A calendar that makes you happy
An announcement that directly reflects the words of George RR Martin, the father of Game of Thrones (Game of Thrones if you prefer). In 2022, the author wrote on his blog that it would take “4 full seasons of 10 episodes each to do justice to The Dance of the Dragons (the civil war between Greens and Blacks, ed.) from beginning to end.”.
Which leaves us with one uncertainty: will season 3 and season 4 consist of 8 episodes, like season 2, or not of ten, as was the case with the first part of the series? When asked at a press conference, Ryan Condal replied that there was no discussion with HBO on the subject. “I just expect the cadence of the show from a dramatic storytelling perspective to remain the same from Season 2 onwards.”
Know how to retain energy
In May 2024, Sara Hess, producer | The screenwriter of House of the Dragon told Entertainment Weekly that it was “not really his decision” to go from 8 to 10 episodes – without giving further details… 2 years ago, despite a very positive critical reception, The first season of the spin-off was sometimes highlighted for its long pace
