News JVTech He buys a high-end processor for 9 dollars because an ignorant salesman buried it in the garbage
A player just shared his incredible story on social media. He got hold of a new processor for his gaming PC for only 9 dollars. how did he do that? He was just lucky enough to encounter a disastrous seller.
The deal of a lifetime: This video game lover tells it all on Reddit
Maybe you don’t know the social network with the little orange robot Reddit. Sort of like a mega-forum, Reddit allows its users to join different communities called “subreddits”. Rather than following individuals like they do on Twitter and Instagram, users are encouraged to follow what’s being said on a given topic. For example, on the subreddit dedicated to Star Wars, Star Wars fans can scroll through the latest hot news, questions, jokes, or anecdotes related directly or indirectly to a specific galaxy far, far away. Reddit is very popular in the United States. In France, the social network is fighting for a breakthrough.
When a slightly wacky story is shared on Reddit, it can very quickly show up in the news feeds of thousands, even millions of people. That’s how we came across the story of u/awright-15 (yes, the nickname isn’t crazy, but that’s not the point), posted by the latter on the famous subreddit PCmasterrace. This subreddit brings together no less than 7.4 million geeks, technology fans, and PC video games. Among them, more than 7200 people liked the aptly named’s little adventure u/awright-15.
The post itself is stupid. The user simply shares a photo of their latest find: a pretty solid processor that cost $9. This photo is the preview image of this article. Our user with the mediocre nickname is as follows:
I found an unopened i9 that is reduced to $15 and on sale for $9. Original packaging.
Which can be translated as:
I found an unopened i9 marked $15 on sale for $9. Original packaging.
An IntelCore i9 processor for… $9. More details to understand the case
The processor that our PC lover is holding is a Intel Core i9-9900K
over 600$ (Amazon).
Then the question arises: How did this player manage to get the deal of the century? We recently told you a similar story: another gamer shared more or less the same anecdote on Reddit. This time it wasn’t a CPU, but a GPU. The young man had snagged an RTX 3080 Ti, a very prestigious graphics card… for $18. If you are interested in this other story, you will find everything on the website! In both stories, the lucky ones met ignorant sellers.
You probably know those big rubbish bins that some shops or stalls use to put things that should have ended up in the rubbish. Real dumpsters full of broken, opened, returned or unsold products, These containers can sometimes contain nuggets. If a newly arrived seller doesn’t know all the ins and outs of the gear on the shelf (with tech products this situation is less rare than you might think), crazy deals can be struck.
The Reddit post has over 400 comments as of this writing. Many congratulations are sent to the lucky ones of the day. Others make jokes or ask technical questions. If you have a few minutes and can read English, Don’t hesitate to take a look at the original publication: the good-natured atmosphere of the comment function is very pleasant!
On to the moral of the story. When a high-tech product honestly seems too cheap for what is on offer, there are generally two solutions: either the seller is actually dishonest and is trying to sell a product that doesn’t work for a pittance, or they don’t know about it. Since it’s not always easy to get a clear picture of the situation we’re in, it’s easiest when we can afford it tries his luck. Keep that in mind the next time you stroll through a flea market or large computer store!
