The raging war in Ukraine also affects video games and studios like GSC Game World of Ukrainian origin are quite politically active on the issue. As this subtle name change shows.
STALKER is developed by Ukrainian studio GSC Game World. And recently the company made the decision to subtly change the name of the game, removing all Russian-language terms. Therefore, the title STALKER2: Heart of Chernobyl has just been renamed to STALKER: Heart of Chernobyl.O
A symbolic gesture for the STALKER teams
It’s obviously a small step, but it’s a way of showing the studio’s determination to be resolutely patriotic. A small political gesture that may seem minimal, but still has strong symbolic power.
The big move
Also, the game’s Steam page has already been renamed. For now, development seems to be on hold and the developers are now based in Prague, Czech Republic. We suspect that the goal is to first secure the families of each of them before proceeding more calmly with the development of a simple video game.
There’s a good chance the game won’t release this year anyway.
