Ubisoft has stopped working on the free2play shooter The Division Heartland. As the company presented in the presentation of the this year’s financial report confirmed, the title will never see the light of day.
Small detail on the side: The announcement of the discontinuation of Heartland came on the same day that the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows was officially announced.
Focus on other projects
The Division: Heartland was already announced in 2021. The game, which was developed by Red Storm Entertainment, was intended to take up and further develop the mechanics known from The Division series.
In the fictional town of Silver Creek, players should set out alone or with up to three friends after a devastating pandemic. The core of the shooter would have been a constantly changing contamination and a change between day and night, which should have a direct influence on the game.
The first trailer in autumn 2022 showed a first glimpse of the development team’s vision:

None of this will happen now. Upon request from Insider Gaming Ubisoft said:
After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cease development of Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, effective immediately. Our priority now is to support the talented team members at our studio Red Storm Entertainment as they move on to new projects within our company, including XDefiant and Rainbow Six.
Ubisoft sees itself on the right track
The Division: Heartland is just one of several games whose development has been halted by Ubisoft in the recent past. A sequel to the role-playing game Immortals: Fenyx Rising also had to be believed.
Like many other large companies in the gaming industry, the major French publisher is currently undergoing restructuring in order to ultimately be able to return to the black. Whether the focus on the above titles is part of this effort remains unclear.
According to the financial report linked above, the company is on the right track. Those responsible expect solid growth for the 2025 financial year – also thanks to games like Star Wars Outlaws or Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
In addition, the cost reduction program is well on its way. According to the financial report, Ubisoft wants to pay more attention to the selection of its investments in the future.
