It turns out that some Hellraiser 2 players cheated in order to complete the latest major order, and ended up having their pet fish killed.
Helldivers 2 isn’t the hardest game in the world, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its challenges. Even so, as with any online game, there are some people who just want to bypass the challenge altogether, as shared on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, where Arrowhead posted a message in the game stating that there are some cheaters, though this is posted in the game world as usual. “Super Earth High Command has discovered a large number of counterfeit samples in the delivery of the last major order,” the message reads.
[Major Order Update] Honestly, this is fun.

“As is customary, all Helldivers who have performed their duties honorably are awarded medals, and the pet fish of those who submit false samples will be summarily executed. Laboratories throughout Super-Earth space are attempting to filter out false samples, but the scientific progress expected to combat the spread of the Darkness has been drastically reduced. As a result, resettlement protocols have been implemented on worlds near the Darkness.”

The special order was issued a few days ago, requiring players to “collect Terminid research samples” within four days for our scientists to investigate Gloom. Players had to collectively collect tens of millions of samples across multiple planets, which many felt was a bit too daunting a task, especially considering the community’s disappointment with the game’s latest update. The order was almost completely completed within a few hours, though, and it’s clear that at least a few players weren’t playing fair.
Hopefully Arrowhead will put more controls on cheaters, because even though the game isn’t where a lot of people would like it to be right now, it really ruins the fun for everyone.
