A Helldivers 2 dataminer seems to have accidentally activated some kind of deadly light show by dropping an illuminated obelisk, and now they're working on activating it again.

Yes, the Bad Guys update in Omen of Tyranny says that while you're busy fighting, there might be something that looks like an Internet of Things, possibly a nifty orbital laser bombardment to stash away for emergencies. Whether something like this actually comes to the game remains to be seen, though.

Dataminer Iron_S1ghts, a long-time Hellraiser 2 leaker who has previously shared sneak peeks of the game's Killzone crossover gear before it was officially announced, classifies this latest discovery as “not exactly a leak,” but just “It has something to do with lighting up the obelisk.”

As you can see below, they shared a clip of a wonderful and very beautiful light show they captured while traveling across the planet's surface. It's clearly more than just something to stare at while roasting marshmallows mid-mission, though, with Iron_S1ghts claiming its beam “deals 1300 damage on hit.”

Music, by the way, wasn't part of it, with Iron_S1ghts revealing in a reply that they accidentally included audio from the playlist they were listening to in the clip. Hell, I was hoping that illuminating the auroras would bring its own morbid rhythm.

“This was completely accidental,” they wrote, “I was testing the obelisk projectile, dropping it from the sky, and like in the process it did this. Not sure what it would do once it's in game But it looks great and for those wondering, it’s pretty surprising that it’s not that heavy on performance. ”

They're definitely going to invest more in this, right? Well, there seems to be a problem, as the data miner seems to be having trouble replicating what it was like to activate it for the first time, writing: “I could have gotten better footage, but I can't reproduce this exact Effect.”

As of now, no data miners or anyone else seems to know what this discovery actually is, so we'll just have to wait and see if more information becomes available. Until then, like all leaks and datamining, we're going to take it with a grain of salt, as Arrowhead has said in the past that not all of this is worth getting excited about and isn't necessarily new content coming to Helldiver 2 .

If nothing else, if you're tired of looking for fantasy casting for a Helldiver movie, there's something else worth speculating about.
