After a truly explosive launch, Helldivers 2 recently experienced significant losses in speed. Its studio must react to save democracy.
Since last month and the intense controversy caused by Sony’s decision to link a PSN account on PC, Helldivers 2 has been going through a very bad time. A real hit at the beginning of the year, it has now fallen off its pedestal and the number of players has dropped significantly. Arrowhead Games must now remedy the situation.
Helldivers 2’s democracy is losing momentum
Despite a truly explosive success for the small studio Arrowhead Games, it managed to keep Helldivers 2 at the top of its form for a long time with a certain mastery. However, the situation got completely out of control when Sony, as publisher, made a very controversial decision. In addition, players are showing a certain frustration with patches that they consider to be too frequent and upset the balance of the game too much, in the bad sense of the word.
Faced with a sharp decline in the number of Helldivers who answered the call of democracy, Arrowhead Games had to revise its battle plan. Now that the PSN account controversy is over, the Swedish studio has been able to sit down and think about the rest of the program. This led in particular to a change of CEO: Shams Jordani takes the place of Johan Pilestedt, who now serves as creative director.
The second part of th is new strategy is a less frequent but much higher quality patch delivery. Helldivers 2 will therefore receive less frequent but much more extensive updates in the future. Aside from the balancing issues, the studio is also working on a solution to prevent players from being shamelessly kicked out of the game just before the end of a match, thus depriving them of any reward. This is one problem among many that should soon be solved in this very successful little co-op game. However, fans who want to defend democracy in the best possible way will have to be more patient than they have been used to so far.
