Sony has presented current business figures and also commented on Helldivers 2. The action hit sold like hot cakes!
Helldivers 2 is an absolute success story – apart from the short-term fiasco surrounding the controversial PSN account requirement on Steam, which ultimately didn’t happen because of the fan uprising. The fact that the title is an undisputed commercial success has now become clear from the sales figures disclosed by Sony.
Sony has published a new financial report and in it also commented on Helldivers 2. Accordingly, the popular action sequel has sold a whopping 12 million copies within the first 12 weeks since its release.
Helldivers 2 joins the ranks of the fastest-selling first-party titles from the PlayStation warehouse. For comparison: The mega-blockbuster God of War Ragnarök sold around 11 million copies within the first 10 weeks after its release – and Helldivers 2 is now in the same league!
It is unknown how many of the sales are for the PC version of the game. On Steam, the record number of simultaneous gamers was 458,709 gamers – also a more than impressive figure. Accordingly, the sales figures here are likely to ultimately be in the millions – and that may lead Sony to rethink its previous first-party release strategy, which mostly initially envisages exclusive PS5 releases. The success of this simultaneous PC release could possibly lead to a rethink.
