Sony itself just made a big announcement about Hellraiser 2, and it didn’t go well. Basically, the “grace period” for PC players to play games without linking their Steam accounts to PlayStation Network is coming to an end – security is cited as the reason for forcing this.
The news was announced via an update on the game’s Steam page, which was attributed to Sony Interactive Entertainment itself, rather than Helldivers developer Arrowhead. “Due to technical issues at the launch of Helldiver 2, we have allowed the linking requirement for Steam accounts to PlayStation Network accounts to be temporarily optional,” it reads. “The grace period will now expire.”

Sony continued: “Account linking plays a vital role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided by PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games, which is why we ban players to protect them from malicious attacks and abuse. Players who engage in such behavior also have the right to appeal.”
“As a result, starting on May 6th, all new Hellraiser 2 players on Steam will need to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account. Existing players on Steam will be forced to log in starting on May 30th, And you need to link your Steam and PlayStation Network accounts before June 4th.”

Sony provided a link to guidance on how to set up a free PSN account, adding: “We know that while this may be an inconvenience for some of you, this step will help us continue to build a community that you can be proud of. “Be a part of it. “
Some players have pointed out that having a PSN account has been listed as a requirement for the game on Steam since its release, and they don’t think it’s a big deal. Still, many of their peers were very unhappy, mainly because it would require them to add another account to the ever-growing list of accounts they already have, and would likely create problems for people who live in areas where specific accounts are set up. Come to question. Setting up a PSN account is impossible and not an easy task.
“This is a publisher dec ision,” Arrowhead community manager Twinbeard wrote in response to player criticism of the move on the game’s official Discord server. “However, the account link has been on the store page since launch. Still/but, I Think this could have been handled better.”
As for the problems it might cause for people in places where PSN is not available, they added: “We are looking for Sony representatives to get more information about the information in the area. Regardless, this information should obviously be included in the message. “If the reply is that you can link outside of the PSN region, but that’s not the case, we’ll get back to you as soon as we know more! “
While this news is obviously dominating the Helldivers news cycle right now, just in case you missed it, the game’s new Warbond – Polar Patriots – was announced yesterday.
