Good news, Helldivers 2’s galactic war is going well so far! At the time of writing, people are on the verge of finally capturing Draupnir, although as always, this success comes with some anxiety about what big turn the conflict might take next. It looks like the answer might be the returning factions from the first Helldivers game.
This is a departure from the main source of concern for much of last week, which was mostly bug-related, as legions of soldiers playing the game struggled to quell terminal bug infestations on several planets. But now that the bugs appear to be well under control, a new potential enemy has appeared on Super Earth’s radar.

First of all, congratulations to those who have managed to push the automaton-infested Draupnir liberation rate all the way to around 97% at the time of writing, even if progress seems a bit stalled in the final stages of this battle. That’s because a lot of people seem to have grown tired of robots and are heading to another planet currently in Super-Earth’s crosshairs – the bug-infested world of Crimsica.
While both world powers seem to be losing some ground as of this writing, you could be forgiven for not pushing the likes of Fenrir III, Meridia, Turing, and Erata as hard as they’ve had to lately people. That said, it looks like this period of relative calm won’t last long, as many spotted blue laser beams in action late last week.
Although Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt shamelessly responded to such sightings by tweeting, “The blue beam isn’t real and it won’t hurt you,” it’s likely that this is a reference to The Light from Helldiver 2 ‘s debut. If you’re not familiar, this advanced race of aliens were the enemies in the first Helldivers game, and they had some psychic and teleporting powers that made them a little different from the robots and bugs we’d been fighting, So far away.

But we’re definitely not going to see them again, right? Given that The Illuminate failed miserably in the first game, it’s impossible to rise again, is it?
Yes, as one player on Reddit put it, Arrowhead can’t possibly “make people arrogant and complacent” as part of “preparing them for the scourge of Illuminate.” “We’re deep into Bug/Bot territory, and then suddenly, we get an alert telling us that Super Earth is under attack from an unknown threat,” the traitor thinks this might be happening, but it sounds absolutely impossible to make sense (and it does in this way).
No matter what happens in Hellraiser 2, be sure to enjoy this relatively peaceful period in the galactic war. Maybe you might want to help out some newbies by replying to some SOS beacons, a bit like this player who has been busy using rock, paper, scissors to make the universe a better place.
