The Last Campfire should actually appear in 2019. But at times it became quiet about the new game from Hello Games, the developer of No Man's Sky. New information was released as part of Nintendo's Indie World Stream on March 17th: The adventure will be released in summer 2020.
As the new trailer shows, The Last Campfire will be very different from the previous space project. This time the game world is compact and the graphics are deliberately reminiscent of picture books.
The music in the video also reveals: The story should be emotional. Already at the first announcement we made a comparison with the mood of Journey and this impression is confirmed again. However, The Last Campfire will be a single player game.
You play a stray ember that is supposed to ignite the last campfire that gave it its name. To do this, you have to explore the world and solve puzzles – in the classic adventure style.
Where can I buy The Last Campfire? The game is not yet available for pre-order, you can only add it to your wish list on Steam. The price is still unknown.
Why was the release postponed?
The release of No Man's Sky didn't really go smoothly at the time, to say the least. Since then, Hello Games has been upgrading properly: With the major Beyond update, VR support, a real multiplayer mode and more story came into play. The work seems to be paying off: The current player reviews on Steam are very positive.
Of course, these developments cost a lot of time and resources. Hello Games is a small studio with only 25 employees. It is therefore not surprising that The Last Campfire had to stand in the back and will only be developed after the release of the Beyond expansion.
Even though No Man's Sky has rehabilitated in the meantime, many players have drawn their conclusions from their experience at the time. How you will be safe from disappointments in the future, you can read in our Plus report about dangerous game hypes.
