If you are waiting for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, we have good and bad news for you: The action film by director Guy Ritchie with Henry Cavill will be released in Europey on July 25, 2024 – as our colleagues from Film releases to report. But instead of in the cinema, only on Amazon Prime Video.
Why Ungentlemanly Warfare is not being released in Europe cinemas
To be fair, it had already been hinted beforehand that Ungentlemanly Warfare would not be big enough for the big screen: the responsible film studio, Lions Gate, had only pushed for a US release and had given the international distribution rights to Amazon for an eight-figure sum.
To make matters worse, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare flopped in US cinemas: With a budget of 60 million US dollars, the film by cult director Guy Ritchie (Snatch, The Gentleman) only managed to gross just under 26 million – despite decent reviews from the press and audiences.
This is actually the second major action flop in 2024 involving former Witcher and Superman Henry Cavill. Argylle by director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) failed at the box office just a few weeks earlier.
What you should know about Henry Cavill’s second action film in 2024
