The cult strategy series Heroes of Might & Magic is now actually celebrating a comeback with the new part Olden Era!
Ubisoft took the opportunity of gamescom 2024 to bring back a very well-known strategy series from earlier days with Heroes of Might & Magic. The new part of the turn-based franchise is called Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era and is the first new part in almost a decade. Better still: the release is not too far away and is scheduled to take place in the second quarter of 2025 on the PC – but initially in early access.
Thematically, Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era is set be fore the events of the first game. Even though it is the eighth main part of the franchise, Olden Era is still essentially a prequel to the previous games.
The Ubisoft partner studio Unfrozen is responsible for the development, which wants to bring back the classic turn-based gameplay and breathe new life into it. Otherwise, there are also some new features. You get more control over how you level up heroes and factions, especially since there are also faction-specific skills. There are also new systems for learning skills and spells, and artifacts give additional bonuses when you equip characters with more than just one set piece.
The factions available are Temple, Necropolis, Sylvan, Dungeon, Hive and an as yet unannounced surprise faction; the latter will be announced at a later date. In terms of game modes, in addition to a campaign, there will also be a number of standalone maps, a random map generator and a map editor. Online there is a classic mode, a one-hero mode and an arena.
