After nearly two decades of waiting, a sequel to Okami is finally on the way, but that's not the only thing Hideki Kamiya has on his mind at his new studio.

When PlatinumGames co-founder Hideki Kamiya announced last year that he was leaving the studio he founded, the big question on everyone's mind was: What happens next? A year later, we finally have the answer to something many fans thought would never be possible, a sequel to the PS2 classic Okami. While Capcom is announcing the game, it's actually coming from Kamiya's brand new studio Clover (an apparent reference to the original studio that made Okami, Clover), and speaking to IGN, Kamiya and Clover's president and chief executive Executive Kento Koyama talks about building the new studio and whether there's anything else in the works.

Koyama explained that the studio is “currently focused on developing a contracted game for a publisher (a sequel to Okami). We will be focusing on that game for a while, but we hope to create our own IP in Clover . But that doesn’t mean that making IP is our top priority. What’s important is that we can bring the most interesting games to our players.”

Kamiya went on to explain that the studio’s strength is that it is a “uniquely creative team. Even while at PlatinumGames, I was never too focused on only creating original works. While I was there, the company also developed Whether it's an existing IP or a new IP that belongs to another company, such as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, our mission at Clover is to create unique games that only we can make.”

It's obviously an exciting prospect for fans of Kamiya's work style and the type of studio he cultivates, but considering we've only gotten a pre-rendered trailer for the Okami sequel, I can imagine any other Things still take a few years. It's time to start counting the days until we get Okami 2 (or whatever it ends up being called). At least we know Capcom is interested in bringing back more old games!
