Hideo Kojima may be one of the world’s biggest movie fans, but he won’t be directing the adaptation death stranding.
But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t in the movie. If you’re even a little familiar with Kojima, you should know that he just loves movies. So it’s not particularly surprising to hear that the video game maker himself was “deeply involved” with the film. Kojima clarified his specific involvement with the film on his English-language Twitter over the weekend, writing: “To clarify, I was deeply involved in the production, supervision, plot, look, design and content. , just not in charge of the director.”

While he may try to make his game as close to a movie as possible, I’m not surprised he didn’t direct the project itself – would you trust Kojima to direct a feature film? Judging by his tweets, if he’s involved in many aspects of Death Stranding, the film may indeed be faithful to the world of Death Stranding, although it’s unclear if this is a direct adaptation.
A film adaptation of Death Stranding was announced last year, but details on the project are scant right now. We know Hammerstone Studios is directing the film, while Kojima Productions is executive producing. Kojima himself has also been confirmed to be producing the film alongside Hammerstone Studios founder Alex Lebovici. The casting for this movie was obviously an easy one, as Sam is played by Norman Reedus, who is better known for his film and TV work anyway.
Death Stranding 2, which was announced last year, is also currently in the works, and Reedus and his co-star Leah Seydoux will return. Unsurprisingly, the trailer doesn’t really tell you that much, since this is Kojima we’re talking about. But you can expect it to come to PS5 anyway.
Just to clarify, I was deeply involved in the production, supervision, plot, look, design and content of the DS film adaptation, but not the director.
