It seems impossible for Hideo Kojima to be himself, as he recently stated that he wants to make a game that can be played in space.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. Yes, you can technically play any game in space (if they can run all the complicated technology there, they can surely make the Nintendo Switch work too). But first, Kojima seems to be saying that he wants to play a game that can only be played in space. Second, his ambitions are much bigger than that: he wants to go to space by himself.
Kojima recently appeared at the premiere of Connecting Worlds, a documentary about himself, where best friend in the world and summer game festival producer Geoff Keighley asked him what he wanted to do in the future. “I want to go to outer space,” Kojima responded, as Axios’ Stephen Totilo shared on Twitter. “I want to go to outer space and create a game that you can play in space… so please send me to space.” At least you can’t blame Kojima for his ambition.
Kojima has been known to like weird game mechanics. Whether it’s Psycho Mantis reading your memory card and breaking the fourth wall, or food spoilers in Metal Gear Solid 3, if you let enough real-world time pass. And his Boktai games, which actually have light sensors that affect the game itself. He does weird things! So I say send him to space and the worst thing that could happen is an embarrassing tweet and we get a game with some badly named characters that we can’t even play because who of us can Can afford to go to space?
However, as far as Kojima’s next plan is concerned, “Death Stranding 2” is officially in development, but there is no release date yet.
At the New York premiere of Hideo Kojima’s documentary “Connecting the World,” Geoff Keighley asked Hideo Kojima what he wanted to do in the future:
