First reviews for Red One
Is Dwayne Johnson a Turnips subscriber? It might be time to seriously ask the question. The first announcements are for “Red One”, the next blockbuster from Amazon Prime Video, which has invested no less than 200 million US dollars to bring together Johnson in the role of a security chief and Chris Evans in the costume of a bounty hunter. The film has a dismal score of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes
It’s a high-octane, CGI-saturated bore that lacks heart and infectious humor, even as it strives for some comfort in the end – Hollywood Reporter
If Red One was a disaster it would be more interesting. Instead, it’s a technically passable action comedy that consists of elements borrowed from other films – New York Magazine
It’s a film that flies right by you, I can tell you that, and for a film that’s meant to evoke the spirit of Christmas, there’s not an ounce of cheerfulness from the script to the production – IndieWire
There’s something heartfelt about the story of two people who have lost faith in Christmas for very different reasons, but mostly it feels like it was conceived in a laboratory for a seasonal show – Empire Magazine
Coming soon to Prime Video
The plot was created by Hiram Garcia, an employee of Dany Garcia (Seven Bucks Productions). The setting is set after the kidnapping of Santa Claus. The North Pole’s head of security must then team up with the world’s most famous bounty hunter on an action-packed mission across the globe to save Christmas. Santa Claus is played by famous American actor JK Simmons. In the casting we find other well-known names, including Lucy Liu (Kill Bill), who plays the role of Zoe, Kristofer Hivju (The Thing) as Krampus and Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) in the role of Gryla. The production was entrusted to Jake Kasdan, who you may already know from two Jumanji films: “Welcome to the Jungle” and “The Next Level”. In the US, Red One will hit big screens on November 15th and will then be available on the Prime Video platform.
