Update, 12. October, 17:23: New offers are constantly appearing in shops, but they are often sold out quickly. If you stay tuned and are willing to pay 2,300 dollars and more, you currently (still) have a chance of buying an RTX 4090. How the situation will develop in the coming hours, days and weeks remains to be seen and also Topic at GameStar Tech.

Update, October 12, 3:30 p.m.: The sale of the Geforce RTX 4090 has now started, but about half an hour later many models are no longer available, if they ever were. This inevitably evokes memories of the releases of the RTX 3000 generation.

At Notebooksbilliger.de, the listed GPUs are either already sold out or the site throws an error message, so far at Alternate it only says Item is currently unavailable for purchase and at Caseking, even with an RTX 4090 marked as in stock, when trying to add it to the shopping cart, we only get the message Unfortunately, we can no longer deliver the item you want in sufficient quantities.

Judging by our previous impressions, the availability situation for the RTX 4000 release is poor, but we will continue to keep an eye on the development for you.

After two years, the time has finally come: Today the new Nvidia graphics cards are released and the RTX 4000 generation celebrates its debut in the form of the Geforce RTX 4090. At the start of sales, we collect all the important information for you and also keep an eye on availability after release.

So that you know in advance what you are getting yourself into, we recommend our detailed test report of Nvidia’s Founders Edition, including a look at the new DLSS version 3.0 and the ray tracing performances. A first test of a custom model is also already in progress.

Nvidia impresses with a huge leap in performance

In November, the RTX 4080 will be released in two variants, one with 16.0 GB VRAM and one with 12.0 GB VRAM. An exact date is not yet known, but you can already find the technical details and prices of the RTX 4080 models in our RTX 4000 overview.

When exactly will the RTX 4090 go on sale?

It officially starts today, October 12, 2022 at 3 p.m.

What versions are there at launch?

Both the Founders Edition of the RTX 4090 from Nvidia and custom designs from manufacturers such as Asus, Gigabyte and Co. are appearing today. As usual, the Founders Edition is sold exclusively via the Notebooksbilliger.de shop, but it is not yet appearing there and it could be due to the comparatively low price (see section How expensive is the RTX 4090?) will also be sold out quickly.

Can I also pre-order the RTX 4090?

Theoretically yes, for example through First listings in the Notebooksbilliger.de shopwith two models currently even as Immediately available Marked are. However, on our test systems, nothing happens when you click the button Pre-order now or in the cart clicks, both with and without an account.

At the time of publication of this article, the Notebooksbilliger.de shop lists five RTX 4090 models, but placing them in the shopping cart or pre-ordering is currently not possible despite the appropriate buttons.

At the time of publication of this article, the Notebooksbilliger.de shop lists five RTX 4090 models, but placing them in the shopping cart or pre-ordering is currently not possible despite the appropriate buttons.

We’ve contacted Notebooksbilliger about this and will update this article if we find out more. From our point of view, however, it can be assumed that it will generally only start at 3 p.m. Some models will then probably be available immediately and others can only be pre-ordered.

Update: We have already received an answer from Notebooksbilliger.de, which confirms our suspicion. The listed tickets can only be ordered from 3 p.m. Nvidia itself also confirms this information and points out that models are also available locally in NBB branches in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Laatzen. If you live in Switzerland, you can switch to the retailer STEG for local purchases, You can find an overview of the participating branches here.

How expensive is the RTX 4090?

Nvidia estimates 1,949 dollars for its own Founders Edition and at Notebooksbilliger.de there are currently at least two custom designs among five offers that are currently listed in the shop at this price. However, it turns out in the Caseking shop a significantly different picture:

The cheap offer from a total of 17 listings is 2,169 dollars and the prices go up to 2,519 dollars. In our opinion, these should be the more realistic costs to start with and it will be rather difficult to get hold of a model with an RRP of 1,949 dollars.

Will the RTX 4090 really be readily available?

Considering how disastrous the RTX 3000 release was in this regard, such concerns are understandable. But there are two aspects in particular that give hope for a better situation with the RTX 4000 release.

On the one hand, only the RTX 4090 will initially be sold, which is extremely expensive at around 2,000 dollars and therefore has a rather small target group. For comparison: At the start of the RTX 3000 generation, the RTX 3080, which was particularly popular at the time, was officially priced at 699 dollars.

It is also to be hoped that Nvidia itself is very keen to prevent a similar release disaster and to ensure the best possible availability.

We currently assume that at least some custom designs will be readily available at launch and that more rather than fewer models will be added over time. However, that cannot be predicted with certainty and we are keeping an eye on the situation, both today at 3 p.m. and beyond.

Parallel to the general information from this article, there is also an overview on GameStar.de with concrete purchase offers and suitable links from our deal editorial team.

Are you planning to buy the RTX 4090 right at the release today and keep an eye on the shops accordingly? Do you prefer to wait for the RTX 4080 or generally for cheaper RTX 4000 models? Or is the new Nvidia generation out of the question for you? Feel free to write it in the comments!
