Game news Hitman 3 barely released and already profitable for IO Interactive
On January 20th, IO Interactive delivered Hitman 3, the third and final episode to wrap up the World of Assassination trilogy that began in 2017. An already profitable component, announced the makers.
With Hitman 3, Agent 47 returned for the most important contract of his career for a handful of assassinations and six never-before-seen targets. In our columns, the title received a 17/20, especially for its rich level design, a “sandbox” formula and the resulting freedom of action or even a lifespan that comes with its replayability. The stealth game launched last week is already topping the UK charts and has even made the franchise’s best start in terms of digital sales.
“”We are very happy with the way Hitman 3 went“said Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, who said he covered all development costs with the sale of the title. For the first time in the saga’s history, it was also fully self-published. An advantage that enabled the creation and development teams to work closely with the publisher and marketing department throughout the project: “We need this cooperation because we all want to create a quality product
It was a love work between our fans and everyone in the studio. As a developer and publisher, we are very proud to say that Hitman 3 is already profitable. We got the total cost of the project back in less than a week. This puts us in a really favorable position and allows us to move forward with confidence in our ambitious plans for the future.
This year the Hitman franchise celebrated its 20th anniversary. According to its creators, it will have been possible to bring together 70 million players during this time. Back in 2000, IO Interactive revealed Agent 47 in Hitman: Hired Killer, the first episode of a saga released on PC. The team is currently working on a brand new license from the famous UK agent 007, James Bond. And if we are to believe the latest statements from Hakan Abrak, the studio’s director, it could take the form of a trilogy. IO Interactive also announced today that it is expanding by opening another studio in Sweden that will accommodate 200 additional employees for a total of 400 employees.
