The latest update shows an extremely detailed picture of the Holy Roman Empire in 1337.
This complex political entity, which consisted of a multitude of principalities, electors, prince-bishoprics, free cities, prelatures, archbishoprics and imperial peasant republics, is presented in Europa Univeralis 5 in an unprecedented level of detail.
In total, the Holy Roman Empire consists of 357 different countries – in Europa Universalis 4 there were less than 100.
Dynasty Card
The HRR dynasty map offers an exciting insight into the power relations and family ties of the time.
The Wittelsbachs ruled over five different countries, including Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria, the Palatinate and Brandenburg. The House of Luxembourg controlled Bohemia and the Archbishopric of Trier, while the Habsburgs ruled over Austria and parts of Swabia and Carinthia.

The culture map shows the different Europe cultures, which offer great diversity despite their linguistic similarity – including Franks, Swabians, Danubians and Saxons. Religiously, the Holy Roman Empire is predominantly Catholic, with a significant Jewish population and some Waldensians.
