Among all genres of video games, especially in the indie scene, Metroidvania is a hit. As the name suggests, it is a summary of the names “Metroid” and “Castlevania”, denoting titles with interconnected worlds in which you need certain skills to advance. This year, that style of play has had some nice iterations (Metroid Dread) and it’s time to look ahead.

CURSE OF THE SEA COUNCIL
The metroidvania genre has been known to sometimes require venturing into tight tunnels to explore every nook and cranny of a map. So what’s better than a rat to do the job? With Curse of the Sea Rats you can play as a rodent in a platform controlled Metroidvania, all in a nice pirate atmosphere. The player has to find the witch who has bewitched him in a “huge and non-linear” world. Best of all, there are four playable characters, and it’s possible to play co-op with as many people as possible. Of course everyone has their own fighting style. You should also know that sword handling is very important in a talent tree. You have to fight to achieve your goals.

ISLANDS
Here, too, a neat and gentle art direction connects with the Metroidvania genre. In Islands, the player has to explore a fragmented universe and, above all, reconnect it. This is one of the main features of the title: bringing several pieces of land together by making friends to uncover other roads, other areas to get lost in. Obviously, enemies will be on the way and the main character – Iko – can count on the help of his friends, new powers and a very mysterious guide. So many reasons to get carried away, with a very nice artistic direction, hand-painted, and a design that is quite reminiscent of the Studio Ghibli style. We hope for a nice surprise in the future.

THE LAST FAITH
Like a mixture of Blasphemous and Bloodborne, The Last Faith is a very action-oriented metroidvania with a gothic and detailed art direction for the most beautiful effect. In the heart of the title an ancient disease that ravaged a once living city and needs to be fought. To do this, Eric the hero must reverse the words of the “hidden prophecy” but also discover the truth behind this devastated world. We don’t know much at the moment, even if – unsurprisingly – there will be several weapons, spells, but also element carboni to increase its power. You will need at least that because the Souls-inspired game requires that there will be a lot of aggressive and powerful monsters. It smells really nice.

With a very detailed and assertive artistic direction, Afterimage makes you want to just look at it. However, it’s also a metroidvania with interesting mechanics. “Each area offers completely different opponents and game mechanics,” says the project’s Steam page. To shoot them down is available to the player a large selection of weapons with special attacks as well as “many improvements”. And best of all: there are many secrets to discover. A movie adaptation in metroidvania, with action, exploration and BMXdoes that tell you? So here Turbo Kid, the video game version of the film of the same name. “You are The Kid, a lone warrior on a journey through the wasteland in search of hope,” the Steam page of the game tells us. “However, what you find on your way is a land of villains and ghosts. Since the phenomenal success of the excellent Hollow Knight, many games have wanted to take inspiration from him, both in terms of mechanics and looks. Here comes a new candidate, but this time he looks particularly serious: sworn in. Add to that a bit of Dark Souls feeling. BLASPHEMUS 2
On the sidelines of a recently released DLC “Wounds of Eventid”, Blasphemous unveiled a second episode last August. At the moment there is no information, trailer or pictures about the meal..
