You may be a big fan of Home Alone (at least the first one) but don’t have enough money to buy the big house that appears in the movie. However, we are sure that avid movie lovers with a few million to spare will buy it.
The iconic house from the first movie, located in Winnetka, Illinois, is now on the market again, according to Deadline. In 2012, the house sold for $1.585 million. Now, its price has risen to $5,250, though it remains to be seen whether the price will drop. Regardless, this is the current North American real estate market.

If you check out the latest photos of the property, you’ll quickly realize that this Winnetka house has changed over the years. In fact, it was completely renovated and expanded in 2018. But of course, “the owners kept the front of the stately little brick house exactly as it was portrayed in the 1990 film.” It’s a five-bedroom, six-bathroom house with its own movie theater and sports court, so even putting aside its Hollywood fame, this is a pretty impressive house. If you’re curious about its current status and where it’s listed, Kathryn Moor and Dawn McKenna of Coldwell Banker Realty hold the listing.
Deadline also reported that last December, “the luxury townhouse from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York sold for just $6.7 million.” While that doesn’t sound outrageous considering its Manhattan location and history, it’s still out of the reach of the average individual/family.
USA Today has a more detailed look and photos of the interior of the house, which has been completely remodeled and outfitted with modern luxuries. Of course, future owners should be aware that there will be a lot of people visiting the house over the Christmas season, so privacy may be an issue even if avid Home Alone fans stay outside. The funniest results were when someone tried to break in, only to be thwarted by a homemade booby trap.
