Homeworld is one of the most decorated sci-fi strategy series and therefore the expectations of the third part are naturally high. The developers, who have now noticeably postponed the release again, see it that way.
The wait for the release of Homeworld 3 continues. Actually, the sci-fi real-time strategy game should have been released last year, but was then postponed to the first half of 2023. This is slowly but surely coming to an end – and now it’s clear that the release won’t happen in this time frame either.
Worse still: Via Twitter the men from Gearbox Software now spoke up and confirmed that in 2023 the sci-fi title would actually no longer work at all. Long-time fans and those who want to become fans will have to wait a lot longer before the first numbered offshoot is available for almost two decades.
As Gearbox confirmed together with the developer studio involved, Blackbird Interactive, the real-time strategy game will now only be released in February 2024. After all, they want to deliver a great sequel that really lives up to the legacy and standards of its predecessors. Unfortunately, in order to be able to really fulfill the vision for Homeworld 3, more time is needed to carry out further fine-tuning.
Reactions to this move have been mixed on social media. Blackbird also finds many supporters, which is probably also due to the fact that in the recent past, many PC games have been released rather unfinished. However, there are also those who have doubts and suspect difficulties in the development. Blackbiard responded to this and promised a major update to the game areas and features that they had been working on for the summer of 2023.
