Gearbox Publishing and Blackbird Interactive have delayed Homeworld 3 from the fourth quarter of 2022 to the first half of 2023.
The game is the latest indie in the Homeworld series, and it continues the story of the generations following the events of Homeworld 2.
“Delivering Homeworld 3 at the highest quality is a top priority for Gearbox Publishing and Blackbird Interactive, as we recognize the special place this series holds in players’ hearts,” Read the joint statement.
“This enthusiasm from the players fuels the work and the extra time will allow us to deliver on our commitment to quality in a healthy and sustainable way for all involved.
“Blackbird Interactive is building the Homeworld game that players have dreamed of, and we’re excited to share our deepest look at Homeworld 3 to date during Gamescom later this summer.
According to previous announcements from the two companies, the Homeworld series of strategy games will return in Homeworld 3, but on a larger scale, you’ll be fighting epic battles in open spaces.
You’ll also fight in 3D terrain of space relics known as boulders, crumbling remnants of ancient civilizations. Here you can lead the enemy to an ambush or hide their fleet from the enemy.
Developed for modern hardware, the game will feature an all-new setting, ship design, and the addition of key gameplay features.
Your fleet will persevere from mission to mission and scars will appear on your ship. You’ll hear Assault Boat Pilots and Capital Ship Captains chatter on the battlefield, and you can enjoy a campaign, some 1v1s, free melee, and even team battles – or tag teams in co-op.
Upon release, Homeworld 3 will be available for PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam.
