Honkai Star Rail is gaining momentum, with the game having been downloaded over 20 million times.
The latest from Genshin Impact developer miHoYo is exploding at the speed of light as it racked up over 20 million downloads in just one day of its release.Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad spotted this and wrote in tweet, which was initially confirmed on the official Weibo of Honkai Xinggui. That’s certainly an impressive number, but not entirely a surprising one. Genshin Impact has been wildly popular since its launch in 2020, and Honkai: Star Rail clearly has a lot in common in terms of character design, even if the latter is decidedly more sci-fi than Genshin’s fantasy setting.
Weibo also announced that, in order to thank all players, miHoYo will be giving out 10 Star Trail Special Passes on April 30th (if you are reading this today, that is today). There’s also a celebration for the game’s launch today, so all in all, if you’re one of those 20 million players who checked out the game, it’s worth logging in today.
If you hear the “Honkai” part of the name and think it sounds familiar, that’s because this isn’t the first Honkai game released by miHoYo. Honkai Impact 3rd was released in 2016, with a very similar setting and some overlapping characters. But while some of these character designs appear in Star Rail, they’re technically completely different characters, so don’t worry if you haven’t played Impact 3rd yet.
