Sony could further expand its successful exclusive brand Horizon. After the release of the sequel Forbidden West, an MMORPG could also be on the agenda.
Horizon: Zero Dawn proved to be a successful exclusive title for the PS4, which is why work on the sequel Horizon: Forbidden West, which has been published in the meantime, began quite quickly. But Sony seems to have a lot more plans for the franchise.
According to a report by the South Korean online magazine MTN an MMORPG is to be created based on the PlayStation IP. The online role-playing game in the universe of Horizon is to be developed by NCsoft. These are real experts of the genre, because the South Korean development studio is responsible for the long-running hits Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2, among other things.
The article states that NCsoft is still in the process of hiring additional developers for the responsible team. The code name “Project H” is used in the job advertisements, behind which the Horizon MMORPG is supposed to hide.
The Horizon series began in 2017 with the PS4-exclusive first part, which is now also available for PC. The sequel Forbidden West was released that year; both titles were well received by critics and the community alike. In addition to the supposed MMORPG, a remake or remaster of the first part for the PS5 is said to be in the works; already in this report it was said at the time that there was also an online multiplayer project around the franchise.
Ultimately, it would also fit that Sony has repeatedly made it clear that it wants to increase its own efforts in the live service segment. In May it was said that by 2025 they wanted to have a total of more than 12 live service titles to fall back on. One of them could possibly be the Horizon MMORPG. Of course we will keep you informed about the further developments of this rumor!
