It was previously considered an open secret, but now it’s official: “House of the Dragon”, the recently launched spin-off of “Game of Thrones”, will receive a second season.
A few days ago, after a long wait, the US broadcaster HBO finally launched the long-awaited prequel spin-off for “Game of Thrones” with “House of the Dragon”. After only one episode was broadcast, the official announcement was made: There will be a second season. So you can look forward to a return to Westeros once again.
The first episode of season 1 was already an absolute success for HBO. Almost 10 million viewers tuned in when it first aired, making “House of the Dragon” one of the most popular TV shows of the year. In the meantime, of course, significantly more viewers have come via streaming & co. In Germany you can be there week after week via Sky when a new episode of the first season is broadcast.
The second season, which has now also been officially confirmed, was probably never really in question, but the prevailing certainty is certainly convenient for Westeros fans. Writer George RR Martin and Ryan Condal, alongside co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik, have been openly discussing a potential second season for months, including at San Diego Comic-Con. Apart from that, “House of the Dragon” is currently considered the most important series in the HBO line-up.
It is not yet known when the second season of “House of the Dragon” will be broadcast. If you stick to the “Game of Thrones” timetable, a premiere can probably be expected in autumn 2023.
