Disney’s Star Wars hotel, the “Galactic Starcruiser”, had to close just 19 months after it opened, as we last reported. The enormous costs for planning, construction and daily operations were responsible for this – and the number of guests fell short of expectations.
The hotel’s last guests from a galaxy far, far away checked in between September 28th and 30th, like ABC News wrote.
In the wake of the closure, Disney asked many of its guests what they envisioned the future of the Star Wars hotel to be like. Len Testa, co-author of the book “The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World,” is by The Wrap quoted as follows:
“If you [Disney] planned to open the doors [des Star-Wars-Hotels] “If they were to close forever, they wouldn’t email every person who was on the Starcruiser for a survey.”
So what will the future of the Star Wars hotel actually look like? One idea is that Disney will recreate the facility with the superheroes from the Marvel films, as you will find out below.
But why did Disney’s “Galactic Starcruiser” fail in the first place? We’re tracking it down.
What was the Star Wars Hotel?
The immersive experience placed guests in the heart of Star Wars for two nights, complete with lightsaber training, missions against the dark side and an authentic Star Wars feeling. With only 100 rooms and prices of over 4,600 dollars per night, it was aimed at hardcore fans.
If you would like to get a more detailed impression of a visit to the intergalactic hotel, you can do so in an almost half-hour video.

The hotel’s problem: The limited number of rooms and high operating costs led to a financial fiasco. Forbes estimates that Disney would have had to make about $900,000 per trip to be profitable. But these expectations were not met. The development and construction costs of around 400 million dollars (around 370 million dollars) made the hotel a financial failure.
The plug was therefore pulled in September 2022.
Does the Star Wars Hotel have to go down in Star Wars history as a galactic failure rather than a triumphant success?
What could happen next with the Star Wars Hotel?
There are currently various assumptions, hopes and speculations floating around the internet about what could happen next with the hotel. We present two of the most interesting ones.
➡️ Idea 1: The Star Wars Hotel as a film set for The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett
Within the Star Wars universe, the Galactic Starcruiser spaceship was named Halcyon. As can be partially seen in the video from above, the hotel is equipped with mezzanines, a dining room and other lavishly designed rooms.
Screenrant is now proposing to use the authentic premises as a filming location for Star Wars production.
Not least because the Halcyon is already anchored in Star Wars history. How Screenrant and Disney Parks Blog As we write, Princess Leia and Han Solo spent their honeymoon on the spaceship Halcyon.
This existing connection and the lavishly designed hotel would make it possible to use the former Star Wars hotel as a filming location for series such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett or Ahsoka.
The second idea has to do with another major Disney brand.
➡️ Idea 2: The Star Wars Hotel as a Marvel Hotel
Der YouTuber Drunk3PO suspects something completely different, as well Bounding Into Comics has reported. According to him, Disney will probably redesign the Galactic Starcruiser to fit thematically with the other major Disney brand: the superheroes from the Marvel films.
The YouTuber suspects the new attraction could be the theme »Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.« got missed. As a reminder: SHIELD is a secret organization that investigates mysterious cases.
What could the Marvel Hotel look like? As the YouTuber suspects, Disney could redesign the Galactic Starcruiser into a flying vehicle from the Avengers films. Guests would then take on the role of secret agents within the attraction, taking on various assignments for SHIELD.
Another argument for the easy-to-implement rework is a location in the Galactic Starcruiser where guests had to use the Force to move stones. In Marvel’s case, guests could do the same with telekinesis powers. Well-known characters from the Marvel universe could then include the Guardians of the Galaxy or Captain Marvel.
According to Drunk3PO, switching from Star Wars to Marvel would be comparatively easy.
Another idea: Another speculation suggests that Disney could transform the Galactic Starcruiser into an experience that can be booked in addition to the regular theme park experience. So no longer a two-day hotel stay, but an extra that can be purchased if necessary for visitors to the theme park.
What the future will really look like for the Star Wars hotel remains to be seen. However, the ideas from this article make you think.
