The Geforce RTX 4080 12 GB, which was canceled by Nvidia in October shortly after its official announcement due to great criticism, returns in early January with a new name – as the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti.
A benchmark leak from the Geekbench 5 database allows you to get a first impression of the graphics card’s performance. The result places the RTX 4070 Ti squarely between the AMD RX 7900 XT and the RX 7900 XTX, but there are important caveats to this score.
You can read about the tests we have already carried out for the two new AMD graphics cards here:
What is the RTX 4070 Ti expected to be able to do?
The RTX 4070 Ti has the same technical specifications as the canceled RTX 4080 12 GB. In detail they are as follows:
- Cores: 7.680
- Tensor / RT-Kernel: 240 / 60
- Base clock speed: 2.310 MHz
- Boost Clock Speed: 2.610 MHz
- Storage: 12.0 GB GDDR6X
- Speicherbandbreite: 504 GB/s
- TBP (Total Board Bower): 285 Watt
No rescue in sight
Dark rumors about high-end GPUs are confirmed
In the leaked benchmark, it achieves a maximum clock rate of 2,730 MHz and is therefore around five percent more powerful than the RX 7900 XT from AMD, at least in this measurement. The latter has an MSRP of $899, but retail prices are significantly higher if availability is poor. You can find out more about this in the link in the content box above.
Compared to its direct predecessor, the Geforce RTX 3070 Ti, the RTX 4070 Ti is about 45-50 percent faster in Geekbench 5 with a TBP that is five watts lower.
Limited explanatory power
As always, the results of synthetic benchmarks should be taken with a pinch of salt, since the performance in games can deviate significantly. An example of this from our current GPU test system:
The RTX 4090 has a lead of about 26 percent over the RX 7900 XTX in the games we tested at 4K resolution. According to the Geekbench values shown above, it is more than 70 percent ahead of the RX 7900 XTX.
We have a similar result when looking at the benchmark Port Royal
detected in the 3D Mark tool. Here, too, the RTX 4090 has a significantly higher lead of almost 70 percent according to our measurement. In fact, the RTX 4070 Ti should rather be sorted behind the RX 7900 XT.
How good and recommendable the RTX 4070 Ti will really be also ultimately depends on the price. The RTX 4080 is currently available from around 1,350 dollars, the RTX 4070 Ti should therefore be in the low four-digit range.
Let’s assume that the performance of the RTX 4070 Ti is just below that of the RX 7900 XT: how much do you think it can cost at most? We look forward to your opinion in the comments!
