- Notice: spoilers from the Fallout series on Prime Video
The Fallout series on Prime Video has a lot of good things. One of them, perhaps one of the best, is that Amazon and Bethesda have not hesitated in the slightest to recreate the violence of the wasteland. Video games have been teaching us for decades that post-apocalyptic nuclear life is hard and we have seen real atrocities.
Bodies shot on walls, torture, mutilations and even corpses that died clutching the throat of their adversary. All this accompanied by a lot of blood, exploding heads and limbs flying through the air. It has been this way since Fallout 3 and today we can continue to see the pieces of meat and viscera around the bodies in Fallout 76. It is not that it is recreated, but the level of detail is enough for it to be obvious.
No one can deny that the series has followed this trend and that it has done it very well. We see everything from partial nudity to real carnage such as the initial invasion of Vault 33, The Ghoul’s carnage in the Landfill and finally the battle at Griffith Observatory.
Deaths, injuries and more in Fallout
The most important fact you should know about the series is that the death counter exceeds 100 beings. More than a hundred humans, ghouls, and bugs are forced to leave the post-apocalyptic nuclear world of Fallout, and that’s not counting all the deaths prior to the series! That is, we have only taken into account the beings that die due to the series.
The approximate figure is 105-106 deaths, depending on how we interpret some scenes. In some moments, we must assume that the character receiving the dose of violence dies or not, and both options are equally valid. For example, some Landfill looter may have survived the shootout with The Ghoul, and taking two hits to the head with a wrench from Maximus may not be fatal. That is why we have chosen to point out that it is an approximate figure.
And what has been the role of our protagonists in this entire history of violence? I have not only reviewed the series to get the approximate number of total deaths, but also to check the lethality of Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Clifton Moten) and Cooper Howard, aka The Ghoul (Walton Goggins).
Lucy MacLean. Our main character is far from being as deadly as our video game characters usually are. Throughout Season 1, Lucy has 5 deaths from two ghouls (Martha and her mother) and three radroaches. Not a human, at least by direct action.
Of course, he has 9 wounded and 5 incapacitated thanks to his training and the sedative gun. Among his most notable attacks are: cutting off Ghoul’s finger, incapacitating a Mr. Handy-type robot, and pouring acid in the face of a Vault 4 inhabitant. Also, we cannot forget the beheading of the recently deceased Dr. Siggi Wilzig (Michael Emerson).
Maximus. The main characteristic of this character is that he spends the entire Season 1 receiving beatings from anyone who crosses his path. Even so, he adds 7 deaths, 5 injuries and 2 incapacitations. The line between life and death for some of his victims is very fine, so the counters can be rebalanced slightly based on each fan’s impression. Let’s see if he wakes up for Season 2.
Cooper Howard, aka The Ghoul. I don’t need to tell you that Howard is the true killing machine of this series. He adds a total of 27 dead, highlighting the western-style shootout at the Landfill and the one against the Brotherhood of Steel during the battle of Griffith Observatory. I should add that I have told you about an off-camera death: the brother of the character wearing the NCR (New Vegas) Ranger Combat Armor.
There are 4 injured and 0 disabled. I have included stabbing Meatball (although he later healed her), torturing Lucy in the lake, and finally cutting off her finger after she did the same to his. The remaining wounded man is one of the looters of the Landfill, who was surely injured by shrapnel when he burst (literally) the first looter who raised her weapon in the Landfill. As with the rest, remember that these are figures subject to interpretation.
Ultimately, the Fallout Season 1 It has more than a hundred deaths and its MVP is undoubtedly The Ghoul. There is no other character so far who has more deaths and everything indicates that she is not going to slow down during Season 2. Let’s hope that Lucy learns something from the bounty hunter before they end up sending him to the other neighborhood.
