How the fame system should become a better feature after much criticism

criticism, Fame, feature, System

The last WoW extension Shadowlands was not well received by players – the User-Score bei Metacritic only counts 3 points. The unpopular fame system was probably to blame for the misery. The system is set to return for the upcoming add-on World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, although you can expect some drastic changes.

In an interview between our colleagues from MeinMMO and Morgan Day, Associate Game Director, and Laura Sardinha, Lead UI Designer, the developers talked about the new fame system and what they learned from Shadowlands, among other things. You can find the entire interview here.

How does the new fame system work?

Let’s first clarify what will remain the same: The user interface should not change significantly. That was pretty good too [in Shadowlands}, um seinen Fortschritt zu sehen und alles., so Sardinha.

Dann geht [ins Menü] and look at the glory. You don’t have to talk to an NPC or anything like that. […] Preview the mount, then plan your day to farm the glory. It’s supposed to be very flexible and from there we want to see where it goes and listen to feedback. We hope that this time it will be more positive.

When asked if fame farming is still necessary or behaves more like a reputation system, Sardinha gives a straight answer: It’s like reputation, yes.

Morgan Day elaborates further. Instead of having to choose, you can in Dragonflight work on all major factions at the same time. According to Day, that’s a really big difference between a choice made and options to choose from.

The word ‘Glory’ is the same, but the systems behind it and what you have to do to interact with it is very different.

Classic raid loggers – i.e. players who only log in for raids – were unable to pursue their playstyle as desired in Shadowlands: There were a lot of things in Shadowlands that you felt you had to do to be able to raid.so Day.

But that’s about to change with Dragonflight, there should be more options and opportunities to get desired items and improvements.

This is of course not the only innovation in the add-on. All information about the WoW expansion can be found in the following article:
