The current version of the Steam Mobile App has been around since 2015, and not much has changed in the last seven years. Although the app works reliably, it is not particularly pretty.
Valve knows that too: In one Blog entry the Steam makers have announced that the year 2015 wants his app back
and the Steam Mobile App is therefore being given a comprehensive redesign.
New Steam Mobile App: Here’s what to expect
Interested users have recently been able to test the first public beta version of the new app. The first thing that will catch your eye is the new look, which is now much prettier and more modern.
You can find several screenshots in the following Imgur gallery of the Reddit user awnful24x7:
But there are also some new functions in the new app: In particular, the log-in via QR code promises more convenience, after all, entering the user name, password and any Steam Guard code is no longer necessary.
Instead, you can now simply scan a QR code on your screen with your smartphone and you will be automatically logged in. Of course you can also log in as usual.
Some things that are also changing:
- The sidebar known from the current app disappears, the navigation now moves to the bottom edge of the screen.
- You can now log in with multiple accounts at the same time.
- Notifications, such as reduced titles on your wish list, should become more intelligent.
- Your Steam library is now displayed more clearly.
Incidentally, we also subjected the Steam Deck to our scrutiny. Have a look here:

So you can already use the new Steam app
Users of Android devices can now switch to the new app
However, users of iOS devices such as the iPhone or iPad get nothing: Although there is also a beta program, this is limited to 10,000 participants, which are already fully booked.
Are you looking forward to the new app and will you log in via QR code in the future? Or will you stick with the usual registration process? Tell us in the comments!
