HTC Vive Pro 2: new gaming VR headset coming in June

As part of VIVECON 2021, HTC today announced the new HTC Vive Pro 2 gaming VR headset. We’ll tell you what to expect and how expensive the good piece will be.

HTC continues to rely on virtual reality and made several announcements today at VIVECON 2021. For gamers, the focus is certainly on the Vive Pro 2, which wants to take VR gaming to the next level.

The display delivers 5K resolution – 2.5K for each eye. In addition, the Vive Pro 2 offers a smooth refresh rate of 120 Hz and a fast-switching panel with real RGP subpixels; this should enable clear and natural animations. Thanks to the dual-stacked lens design, the field of view is noticeably expanded to 120 degrees. Overall, gamers should therefore be able to expect minimized motion blur and an elimination of the screen-door effect.

For the implementation, they are also working closely with NVIDIA and AMD; Thanks to the cooperation, the display stream compression is to be optimized for the first time in a VR headset. Backwards compatible with Display Port 1.2, the visual quality should be increased again.

The perfect fit should be guaranteed by adjustable eye relief, even weight distribution, an adjustable headband and quick size adjustment. When it comes to sound, you can look forward to 3D surround sound and HiRes audio. The entire range of accessories should also work with the Vive Pro 2.

Upgrades can now be pre-ordered for the pure headset version; these also receive an exclusive discount. The HMD version then costs 739.00 dollars. The complete package including Base Station 2.0 and Vive controller is available at a price of 1,399.00 dollars. In terms of business VR, the Vive Focus 2 was also announced, which also offers 5K resolution and a 120 degree field of view, but only a 90 Hz refresh rate. This VR headset should be available from June 27, 2021 for 1,180.00 dollars.
