Huawei appears to be getting ahead of its competitor Samsung. A photo shows a top manager of the company testing a new type of “accordion cell phone”.
Rumors have been circulating on the Internet for some time that Huawei is working on a tri-fold phone and could possibly bring it to market before competitors such as Samsung or Xiaomi. These are foldable devices whose screens can be folded more than once – visually, the devices are reminiscent of an accordion. Huawei itself has so far remained tight-lipped about the rumors and has not yet shared any information with the public.
It is all the more surprising that a first picture of the first triple-folding mobile phone has now appeared on the Internet. As the news portal GSMArena reported, a picture of Richard Yu, the former CEO of Huawei, was suddenly shared on Weibo. In the photo, it is clearly visible that Yu is sitting on an airplane and holding a tri-fold phone.
Leaker speculates on further technical details
On Weibo The well-known leaker Digital Chat Station speculates about further technical details of the Huawei phone, which he deduces from the image. He writes that the device reminds him of an older prototype and that Huawei’s tri-fold phone could possibly be equipped with a 10-inch display.
The leaker also suspects that the phone will contain a processor from the Kirin 9 series. The most recent phone with a processor from this series is the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra.
Price and availability
According to leaker Digital Chat Station, the first tri-fold phone manufactured by Huawei will be presented before the Mate 70 and thus before the end of the year. However, it will probably initially only be for the Chinese market.
