Scalable smartphones are in progress?
There is almost no doubt that Huawei is actively developing new smartphones. However, a patent that has now appeared indicates the future direction of development and how Huawei responds to the problem of foldable mobile phone displays.
So far, people are skeptical about foldable smartphones, such as Samsung's Galaxy Fold or Huawei's MateX. The first generation of foldable phones is already on the market, but they must deal with durability issues. This obviously prompted more and more mobile phone manufacturers to reconsider. TCL has demonstrated the concept of a pull-out smartphone and demonstrated how to fit a large-size display into a smaller case without a folding mechanism.
Huawei has now obtained a patent that also indicates a new display technology that can expand the display. Lets Go Digital reported on this in an article. However, the display will not disappear in the housing, but will protrude flexibly around the housing. This also outsources part of the surface to the back. For this, the AMOLED display is stored on the rail. You can see theoretical innovations in the library below.

The patent was approved and issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization [WIPO for short] on April 14, 2020. It shows two models of this type, which seem to be very similar to Huawei Mate XS. However, these are so-called "designs" and only show loose design suggestions. There is no guarantee that such smartphones will appear soon.
One of these two concepts also has a smaller screen portion, which will cause the expanded width to provide less space. This is mainly due to the fact that the camera is placed optically on the other side, thereby changing the external dimensions. This also changed the sliding mechanism

Advantages over foldable displays
The source of errors for foldable displays is not trivial, especially on similar issues that Samsung has already felt. If you want to install a pull-out display, you can reduce the pressure as much as possible, because the display no longer needs to be folded or folded.
So far, there is no smartphone using this technology. So far, TCL has only proposed a concept in the video, but it does not show the real device. Huawei may already be developing this pullable smartphone. However, the patents now appearing cannot guarantee this.
