Fitness tracker and smart watch
Do you use Huawei wearable devices with Android phones of other manufacturers? If so, problems may occur. Huawei will ask to install the internal AppGallery to make the tracker run again.
Manufacturers often provide apps for their fitness trackers or smart watches through the Google Play store. This allows you to connect the device to a smartphone, synchronize and update. However, as many complaints from the Huawei Support Forum have shown, the Chinese manufacturer is taking a different route and "recommending" its own AppGallery to users.
Smartphone users from other manufacturers are currently complaining that the Huawei wearable devices they purchased can no longer be connected. Most of them also reported that the error has only occurred since the latest update of the device or Huawei Health App. This also applies to devices such as the new Huawei Watch GT2 or fitness tracker Huawei Band 4.
Huawei explained on the forum that users now need AppGallery, which can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. This is the manufacturer's own app store. Then you should reinstall the Huawei Health app and Huawei Mobile Services from there so that the wearable device can be connected to the phone again. For example, if you use Huawei P40 Pro, there will be no problem because AppGallery and required services are pre-installed logically here.
Mandatory AppGallery may increase circulation
However, if you think you can uninstall the App Gallery in the future, it may be wrong. Because Huawei Mobile Service [HMS] can only be updated through the Huawei App Store. Users wrote in the comments that HMS must now use the Health App. If the connection is lost again, you need to use AppGallery again to update the application again. So far, there is no workaround on this topic.
In the support forum, users now suspect that Huawei wants to use this strategy to bring its own app store to other smartphones. Therefore, anyone who purchases a manufacturer's smart watch or fitness tracker may be forced to install AppGallery. Of course, this will greatly increase the spread. However, this process seems to annoy users.
U.S. embargo may be a reason
However, due to the US ban on Huawei, this situation is difficult to assess. It is unclear whether Huawei cannot update its health app in the Play Store as usual, or whether it must delete important functions. The latest update of the app is on May 4, 2020, but this does not necessarily have to speak to this Chinese manufacturer.
Huawei itself is no longer allowed to install Google services on its smartphones, which is especially a problem for customers outside Asia. This issue is unlikely to play a role in the homeland of Chinese manufacturers. At present, the appearance of the program provided by Huawei from the Google Play store has not been fully clarified. So far, these applications are still fully available.
