In a developer live stream lasting about an hour and a half, the creators of Hunt: Showdown talked about their plans for the future. It was about both short-term innovations and changes with the Update 1.8 for the end of Marchso also about further plans for the rest of the year.

In this overview, we summarize the most important announcements from Community Manager Rick Taylor and Social Media Manager Bence Hamos – if you want to know all the details, you can also watch the recording of the entire broadcast above. And here we go:

New weapons and variants

Crytek continues to stock the Hunt: Showdown arsenal with new Wild West-era guns. Although they are not supposed to appear directly with Update 1.8, they are already available on the test server for sample play. The following weapons have been announced:

  • Winfield 1893 Slate: A new pump-action shotgun with a 6-round tubular magazine. This shotgun shoots faster than the Specter, but the range is shorter. Slugs and pennyshot cartridges can also be loaded.
  • Caldwell 92 New Army: A new 6-shot revolver with a fast, double-action trigger. He is similar to the Nagant Officer but deals more damage. The drum can be folded out to the side for reloading.
  • Berthier responds: This new variant of the already included Berthier is equipped with a bayonet, making it ideal for close combat.
  • Scottfield Brawler: A shortened version of the included Scottfield revolver with permanently mounted brass knuckles for close combat.

The second pump-action shotgun in the game relies primarily on a high rate of fire.

The drum is folded out to the side, which enables quick reloads.

Unfair skin reworked

The hunter Cain, hated by Hunt players, will be adjusted and should now be much more visible. The developers have primarily revised the coloring of the skin. Because of Cain were Pay2Win allegations have become loud, as the character blends too much with the environment. The new Cain version will appear in update 1.8 at the end of March.

Map improved

Several critical points on existing maps will be revised. Among other things, the developers place new cover elements at Cypress Huts on Stillwater Bayou, where the open space was often a source of frustration. The developers have reworked more than a dozen areas based on player feedback, and the changes will be applied to the game with update 1.8 at the end of March.

new event

A new in-game event is also scheduled for March 2022. So far, Crytek has not given any details, but shared a teaser clip on Twitter – apparently the event is related to the full moon:

Events in Hunt: Showdown mostly add secondary mission objectives to the maps and bring new variants for items and weapons.

Who previously starred in Hunt: Showdown stuttering or framerate issues has a new tool at hand: Crytek is bringing back a revised version of the Lightweight Profiler, which monitors the technology in the background and identifies problems. Players can easily activate the diagnostic tool in the menu.

New progression system

In order to provide more long-term motivation, Crytek wants to provide a better sense of progress and is addressing two areas:

  • Quests: The Daily and Weekly Challenges will be replaced with a “more exciting and motivating” system, according to Crytek. A first version of the quests should appear in April or May.
  • Prestige: The previously known prestige mechanics should be expanded or replaced by a new system to give long-term players new goals. Details are not yet known.

New boss and opponent

Crytek confirms for the first time that it is working on a new boss monster. But don’t get excited too early: the project is currently still in the early concept phase. One should definitely not count on the new boss in the next six months, warns Crytek. We are therefore assuming a Boss release for Christmas or in spring 2023.

There are currently four bosses: the spider (pictured here), the butcher, assassin and scrapbeak. A fifth is in the works.

At least there will be other new opponents by then. So became two new variants for the zombie grunts for the second quarter of 2022, which are said to resemble the Miner or the Doctor. Further AI variants will be gradually introduced later.

Interface improvements

The menus should also be tweaked. The developers want to rework the somewhat confusing equipment screen and polish the end-of-match screen after player death. For example, it should provide even more team details and a better overview.

As a small teaser, Crytek also announces a new teamwork feature towards the end of the broadcast, but does not reveal any details about it yet. But more information will follow soon.

How is Hunt doing now? Last August, Steam player numbers hit a new high and more and more well-known shooter brands are looking to copy Hunt. That’s no coincidence: Crytek’s unique PvPvE horror mix was able to advance into new rating regions at the end of 2021 thanks to its numerous improvements from recent years in the GameStar test
