I asked an AI 10 times who will win the 2022 World Cup

asked, Cup, times, Win, World

At least since the famous octopus Paul, who made many correct mistakes at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa predictions has shone, it is in vogue to ask oracles about the sporting outcome of tournaments. In 2022, however, octopuses will be out long ago, and who naturally takes their place in times like these? Of course AIs. It would be laughable if I couldn’t get involved!

Admittedly, this is the one I’m using here Midjourney-KIwhich is in open beta, only around an image AI. So it’s about an artificial intelligence that creates images based on text input. Accordingly, our AI did not analyze all of the participants’ World Cup squads and their most recent results, as well as form curves and plays and so on.

Still, it was very exciting to see how Midjourney responded to the text input Who will win the 2022 FIFA World Cup? (in English) responded – even if the result was anything but what I had previously hoped for.

Criticism of the World Cup in Qatar
The football World Cup in Qatar has been sharply criticized from several quarters. Allegations of bribery had accompanied the awarding of the stadium, and workers were said to have been exploited and human rights violations committed during the construction of stadiums. The usefulness of the award was also questioned, since the stadiums and infrastructure that already existed in other countries had to be built first.

You can get more information about the World Cup award in this documentation of the ARD.

Incidentally, this AI experiment is not the first of its kind that I have carried out. If you find the topic as exciting as I do and want to see more of the often impressive images that can be created using AI, I recommend the following midjourney articles with us:

One question, many answers – and three dominant colors

One thing is important to know in advance. The results of Midjourney can vary greatly with each new attempt, even if you enter exactly the same text. In addition, the AI automatically suggests four images for each attempt, some of which are very similar and others not at all.

To take this fact into account, I asked the AI ten times who would win the 2022 World Cup. She often responded with colors in the pictures that I recognized as flags. But no color combination has come up nearly as often as the one shown in the following pictures. But be forewarned: you must be strong now!

Yes exactly, only red. White. Blue. Red White. Blue. Okay, the penultimate picture could almost be the flag of Austria, but they didn’t even qualify. Also, the circular symbol on the last flag has no place on the Dutch original, but it’s hard to deny: Midjourney, at least in relation to my inquiries, unfortunately seems confident that our Dutch neighbors will win the World Cup – as far as they can can say of an AI.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Netherlands and its people and have been vacationing there at least once a year for a long time. But when it comes to football, as a perennial fan of the Europe national team, I could hardly have imagined a worse prediction due to the great rivalry, except maybe England.

Prediction #10: There may still be hope after all

But there was one small ray of hope when I saw the following picture in Midjourney at my request:

Admittedly, we still have to work on the order, but at least the colors themselves are correct!

Entertaining experiments like this help me personally to detach myself from all the first and serious issues that surround us in connection with the 2022 World Cup and currently in general. I hope that you can understand that such a form of distraction is good for me from time to time – and that this little experiment has the same effect on you.

To be honest, I’m not even sure how I want to proceed with the World Cup in Qatar due to the critical circumstances, i.e. whether I’ll watch the games or not – and I mean that without a raised finger.
