RPG fans will need hours to play all the great games of this genre that will hit stores during the first weeks of the year, because there are not especially few of them. One of the most promising and anticipated releases is that of Persona 3 Reloadwhich is about un remake of the title that originally debuted on PS2 and later on PSP.
Atlus wanted to bring it back with a completely renewed version and in which it is clear that it has been based on the most important features of Persona 5. In recent days I have been able try the game for an hour to give me a small idea of what it will be like, although naturally my impressions are somewhat limited considering that the final game can easily last more than 80 hours. At least it has been a splendid preview to increase my expectation even more.
Strengthening links with the characters with its social section
A large part of this game that I was able to play, the plot of which was clearly located at a fairly advanced point in the story, and which I cannot speak about, was based on the social component of the game. At first it started at the academy where the group of protagonists studies, where you can start a conversation with other students, although the important thing is to meet up with one of the main characters.
For example, one of those I saw was Junpei, who suggested that I go for a walk after class. In this way, we went to an arcade and in the process it helped both of us get to know each other in greater depth, increasing the social statistics and the relationship that both of them maintain. Even so, you can also talk to girls to have a date, being able to choose different responses that affect the course of the conversations.
Even so, there are more ways for our protagonist become more social and increase your stats. It is not always necessary to meet someone for this, since you can visit the different settings to take a walk, visit shops to purchase objects or gift items and it is even possible to go to the cinema to spend a very entertaining afternoon.
Without a doubt all these moments serve to relax between so much action and carry out other different activities, but for the moment I have only been able to see very briefly what this section can offer. On the other hand, in the residence where the characters stay you can also talk to them, with several floors to explore along the corridors and in the rooms, where there may be the odd object.
In any case, in this area I discovered two key places, one of them being the rooftop, where there is a small garden to grow food, although that means waiting several calendar days until they have grown enough. As for the other, it is our protagonist’s room, where we also have to spend time studying so as not to fail in our studies, but the important thing is that thanks to this, some of his statistics will increase.
In general, a feeling that I got most of the time was that It looked like I was playing Persona 5. with other characters and a different plot. It is noticeable that the interface is based on that of this latest installment, as well as the graphic style, the characters and in general the way of playing, which can be a great point to take into account if you are one of those who loved this exceptional JRPG.
The challenges in Tartarus
Leaving aside the social part, the other section that I was able to play in for a while was Tartarus, a tower-shaped dungeon that the characters can explore to eliminate the threats it harbors. Here they all dress in new combat uniforms exclusive to each one, but that is not all the news, because changes have also been made to the combats and skills.
The dozens of floors of Tartarus are a kind of roguelike in which the designs change every time you enter and leave, as well as the enemies that are roaming freely through its sinister corridors. Once you come into contact with them, a spectacular turn-based battle begins in which the characters can attack, use special abilities or use their Personas.
One of the new capabilities you have at your disposal is Theurgy, a devastating attack similar to special moves Persona 5. To activate it, you must meet a series of requirements so that little by little this attack is charged, which can trigger one of the most devastating attacks in the game, although you must try not to suffer altered states or be eliminated so as not to lose the progress made with the bar. load.
In another order of things, you must also take into account the strengths and weaknesses of the creatures to be eliminated. An essential detail to keep in mind because knocking down all the enemies that are active at that moment will enable another brutal attack in which all the characters come together to attack at the same timecausing real havoc.
Once victory is achieved, opponents may drop sets of cards that can grant bonuses or even new summons needed to gain more abilities. Of course, all of this is completely random, since sometimes they didn’t give me any cards and on other occasions they gave me two to five different ones, having to see what each one offers, since you can only choose one. .
In general, I found the fights very easy, but I also want to believe that this trial version was designed to test the new features beyond providing a good challenge. For this reason, I cannot say if the difficulty is affordable, has been reduced or has been increased from a certain point in the adventure. What I am clear about is that with these improvements, many of them extracted from Persona 5the confrontations will become even more interactive and impressive.
Luckily we won’t have to wait too long to clear up doubts, since the launch of Persona 3 Reload It will occur in just a couple of weeks. Regardless of whether you played the original title or are fans of the saga, this is a release that you cannot miss at all because a JRPG is coming that aims to be one of the most outstanding games of 2024.
