ATTENTION SPOILERS: This post contains very important details about the plot of The Boys in the comics.
We are already fully immersed in the fourth season of The Boys and Patriot’s machinations keep us glued to the screen. The series of Amazon Prime Video is in charge of adapting the events of the comic created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, but it will not feature one of the craziest script twists in the vignettes.
This has been confirmed by the showrunner himself Erick Kripke, who has chatted with Variety to point out how little that plot surprise satisfied him. The event that the person responsible refers to is the one in which we discover that Negro Oscuro is, in reality, a clone of the Patriot himself.
Therefore, this plot line will not happen in the series and Kripke wanted to explain the reasons why he is not interested in that idea:
“No, and I don’t mind saying it. In the comics, he’s a clone of Patriot this whole time and he’s actually the one doing all these horrible things. And again, it’s an incredible twist. But it’s like, well, wait, the villain I’ve been following isn’t actually the villain. Opinion varies, and I’m sure fans are mad that I’m not going that route, but that didn’t seem all that satisfying to me.
If I’m going to follow this villain, I want this guy to be the villain. So I never liked the clone idea. Also, the cloning feels too much – I’m going to sound silly – but the cloning feels too magical for the series. “We try to say that superheroes are the only slippery banana, and everything else we try to make as realistic as possible.”
On the other hand, Kripke also wanted to make it very clear that The ending of the comics will not be the one we see in The Boys series either.
“There are some things in the comic that we couldn’t do even if we wanted to. I think, look, there are some shocking twists in the comic, but I would like them to be a little more emotionally satisfying. So, the ending I have in mind is, certainly, it has elements that it is inspired by. But it is not the end of the comics.”
