XDefiant, Ubisoft’s multiplayer FPS shooter, has been plagued by development delays due to over-ambitions and a problematic work environment, but a release date has finally been announced!
The road to releasing the XDefiant game was turbulent. The title has encountered several obstacles, delays for various reasons ranging from certification issues on consoles to inconclusive testing. For months there was uncertainty about the release date of the Ubisoft game, but after various twists and turns, a date has finally been announced! The game will be available from May 21st.
A complicated development
According to Ubisoft internal sources, XDefiant has experienced several internal delays since its announcement in 2021, confirming the words of well-informed insider Tom Henderson. These delays are largely due to the high expectations of managers who wanted to compete with titles like Call of Duty despite mixed reception from players.. For their part, developers have expressed frustration with this pressure. XDefiant executive producer Mark Rubin responded to X by saying that these shifts had nothing to do with feature expansions. but to major technical issues the team encountered. What is planned for the launch?
Ultimately, XDefiant will launch with five playable factions, each representing iconic Ubisoft universes such as Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, The Division and DeadSec from Watch Dogs. In addition to the factions, the game will feature 14 maps and five different game modes at launch. In the first year, the game receives four additional factions, 12 weapons and 12 additional maps.
The six-week preseason allows players to familiarize themselves with the content before the official launch. Each season will then bring its share of new features, with new factions, weapons and maps being introduced regularly every three months. After Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft wants to re-establish itself in the competitive field of game-as-a-service FPS and offer players a constantly enriched and renewed experience.
