Lord of the Rings fans should be happy because Wētā Workshop A new game set in Middle-earth is officially in development.
The private sector announced the news today (August 15) and will be responsible for publishing the as-yet-unnamed title. Last year, the Wētā producer’s job ad, Workshop, was advertised as a new project based on “major IP globally.” It looks like this IP is actually Lord of the Rings, which makes a lot of sense considering the studio was really committed to the effects of the original film.
The press release notes that the game is still in “early development” and doesn’t yet have a release date, but is apparently expected to launch in Take Two’s fiscal year 2024.
“We are delighted to partner with Wétā Workshop to release a game in such an extraordinary and famous universe,” Michael Worosz, chief strategy officer and head of private divisions at Take-Two Interactive, said in a statement announcing the news. The Lord of the Rings IP carries many extraordinary stories, and no entity is better equipped to create a unique new Middle-earth gaming experience than the team at Wétā Workshop.”
Workshop Amie Wolken, Head of Interactive at Wētā, also expressed excitement about the opportunity to create a new game in Middle-earth, “especially a game that is very different from what fans have played before.” Wolken continued: “As fans, we are very We’re excited for players to explore Middle-earth like never before and introduce new fans to the magic of The Lord of the Rings.”
This obviously isn’t the only Lord of the Rings game currently in development.we hope Lord of the Rings: Gollum It was due to launch this year, but was delayed by “a few months” late last month, so there’s no release date yet.
Then there’s EA’s free mobile game, which sounds like it might be a Lord of the Rings gacha game. This makes Wēt & amacr’s untitled title workshop the third title based on the IP, so Lord of the Rings fans must have a lot to look forward to.
