John Krasinski is riding high on the success of the two A Quiet Place movies released so far, wondering what his next directorial project will be? Well, what if (not the original title “Imaginary Friends”) is the answer you might not have expected.
Krasinski has made a career out of being a very funny (and heartwarming) guy as Jim Halpert in the US remake of The Office, so maybe he was destined to write and direct mainstream comedies, but The Office IF》seems a little too sweet and clean. My taste. The premise sounds corny. The jokes feel tailor-made for Ryan Reynolds’ now over-the-top comedic style; the under-designed cartoon monsters create wacky situations in familiar settings; and the cast feels like a giant checklist of things to do. Who can add “star power” to a seemingly simple movie. You can judge the first trailer for yourself here .
In addition to getting a first look at the film, Krasinski shared a poster on social media yesterday that also had his name written all over it:
The plot synopsis reads: “The story of a young girl who goes through a difficult experience and begins to see her imaginary friends grow up, leaving behind her real-life friends.” You just know how the whole thing is going to play out, But I’d love to be proven wrong. After all, Krasinski’s past big-screen scripts have been incredibly clever despite their simplicity.
IF stars Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Kelly Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon , Maya Rudolph, Jon Stewart, Bobby Moynihan, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Manisco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, Okafi Na, Steve Carell and Louis Gossett Jr. I know those people!
